I had a very encouraging training week. I timed my swim and a mile run, and I was pleasantly suprised by both. To enter the race in April, we have to provide an estimated 400m swim time, so they can place us in appropriate heats. I didn't really have a good idea of where I was at, but after timing it twice, I swam it in about 8:30. Friday I didn't have a lot of time to work out, so I decided to time a 1-mile run, just for a benchmark. I thought I would struggle to break 10 minutes, because although I used to be a runner, I feel like this is my weakest point now. I've been really discouraged by my lack of endurance and mental toughness while running. Much to my surprise, I ran it in just less than 9 min (8:54 I think). While I would have been ashamed of the time in high school when I was in peak shape, I was very happy with it on Friday.
I know neither the swim or mile times are anything special -- in fact maybe you're thinking "that's it? you're excited about that?" -- but I expected a lot worse, so I am encouraged to keep going. Also, now I have benchmarks, so I can set goals to try to improve my time. Race day is less than two months away (April 20), and I have a lot of work to do, but I feel more prepared than I was last time I did a triathlon ... and I have a much cooler bike (see previous entry), so that always helps =)
Until next time, happy training!

Hey...I'm impressed. I have been running about 4 days per week for the past couple of years, and I am nowhere close to the time. I never was a runner, but I am trying to do about three miles with each run, so this is an accomplishment for me.
yay! congrats
