the overton's

Thanks to my friend Kelsey's recommendation, we stopped at her family's ranch in Yeso, New Mexico, on the way from Stillwater to Oregon. As her sister said to her mom -- that's not on the way to Oregon! We figured it was a good excuse for a detour. And we were right. It was a highlight of the six-day trip. On the way to their ranch we stopped at the grave site of Billy the Kid in Ft. Sumner. They had paintings of some famous wild-westerners, too. At the Overton's, we spent a lot of time visiting with her parents, Beverly and Charlie; toured their beautiful ranch; watched the neighbors work their calves; found cool rocks; and cooked dinner over a campfire on a mesa on their ranch. Oh, and we swam in their "ranch-style pool" (at least that's what they call it). We had an awesome time and can't wait to go back again -- hopefully sometime we can meet up with Kelsey and her husband Ryan there (they live in Stillwater).
